Open Source Hardware
As current/former PhD students, we're passionate about teaching and sharing how we do things. To that end all of our electronic modules source file are available for viewing and modification. We proudly have the OSH (Open Source Hardware) logo on every module. Even before we launched our Kickstarter in November 2013 we showed off Circuit Scribe to the folks at Open Source Hardware Summit at MIT in September, 2013.
Not only are our magnetic modules open, but our original ink formulation has been well documented in both academic journals and a video. Below Analisa walks through the steps of formulating the ink. You can find more information in the journal article:
Our Materials Safety Data Sheet (MSDS)
Circuit Scribe is Non-Toxic!
Material safety is of key importance to us, and the Circuit Scribe system hinges on our formula being non-toxic. Our conductive silver ink formulation has been tested and certified non-toxic by Duke toxicology in association with WIMA, the Writing Instrument Manufacturers Association. While there is no specific minimum age for our pen alone, we do recommend 8+ or adult supervision. If Circuit Scribe ink gets on the skin, simply wash it off.
